About the Seminar:
This training will be comprised of several educational activities, in a virtual workshop format, that educate participants how to teach effectively with simulation using a variety of innovative technologies and virtual approaches. The training will cover pedagogical approaches, simulation scenario design methods, and implementation strategies. The training will review several simulation resources to assist faculty when developing and integrating simulation scenarios within the curriculum. Dr. Elisabeth McGee, PhD, DPT, MOT, CHSE
Director of Simulation Education and CICP Operations at USAHS
Dr. Elisabeth McGee began her career as a physical and occupational therapist. She joined USAHS in 2005 and is based on the Saint Augustine, FL campus. She currently serves as Director of Simulation Education and CICP Operations. She has experience in simulation, educational technology, academia, and clinical practice.
She previously served as the Vice Chair for the Florida Healthcare Simulation Alliance Affinity Group through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She has served on several university committees including the Innovation Steering Committee, Transformational Steering Committee, the Faculty Development Committee, and the Technology Steering Committee. She has participated in key educational technology initiatives that revolve around effective simulated learning environments, online learning platforms, educational technology pilot processes, 3D printing, robotics, and virtual reality. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Educational Technology which has a strong focus in simulated learning, innovation, and multimedia learning.
Elizabeth Horsley, RN, CHSE
Director of Simulation at The Brooklyn Hospital Center
Elizabeth began her career as an Operating Room Nurse. She transitioned to nursing education in 2003, and in 2005 responsible for a half-million dollar development grant from the province of Ontario to develop and implement a clinical simulation program in a small undergraduate nursing program. She succeeded in integrating a simulation across all four years of a baccalaureate nursing program. In April of 2017 she was recruited to the position of Director of Simulation at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. She has transformed a forgotten simulation lab and random pieces of equipment in to a robust and thriving space in a community hospital.
Elizabeth has pursued many advanced training opportunities in simulation including the Comprehensive Simulation Instructor Workshop at the Center for Medical Simulation at Harvard and The Mastery Learning Course at Northwestern. In 2016, she was in the first graduating class from the Master of Science in Medical and Healthcare Simulation at Drexel University. She is CHSE certified and facilitates readiness review courses for the certification.
She is a self-admitted “hoarder of simulation resources” and her passions is helping novices learn best practices for developing their own simulation programs.
